Atletico Madrid will host Tottenham in the round of 16 first leg Champions League and manager Diego Simeone insist that his team is the underdog despite the fact their opponents are struggling with their form in the English Premier League.
Simeone said that despite Tottenham’s currenting form seeing them 16th on Premier League table, Atletico Madrid cannot be considered favourites to win at the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium.
“Atletico cannot be considered favorites against Tottenham. If you look at their current position in the Premier League… it depends on how you interpret it.”
“We don’t know exactly how the match will start, but we understand the characteristics of our opponent. I know their coach — his teams have always focused on attacking football, regardless of the formation. We’ll see. Many scenarios are possible, but ultimately, it’s the players on the pitch who decide how the game unfolds,” Simeone said.
“Football is a game, and when you have a squad like theirs, it deserves full respect. We have to bring the match into the areas where we believe we can cause damage.”
