There was bloodbath in Katsina following a clash between Nigeria army troops and gunmen suspected to be bandits.
The bandits had moved into Katsina from Zamfara on Thursday to steal cattle in Alhazawa Village in the Musawa Local Government Area. But Local vigilante engaged them and four of the bandits were killed.
And on Friday March 6 the bandits regrouped in their numbers and attempted to invade the communities in retaliation, but on their way, they ran into troops of the Nigerian army at a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Dan Ali, Katsina State.
A fierce battle ensued and when the smoke cleared up the Army lost Captain Paul Hassan and two other soldiers, but 45 bandits laid dead.
Katsina Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Dr Nasir Muazu said Saturday, the army fought gallantly to beat back the invading bandits.
“On behalf of the State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, Government and the people of the Katsina, I commend the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers. Their actions have saved countless lives and disrupted the operations of these dangerous criminals”, the Commissioner stated.
“We also extend condolences to the families of the deceased military personnel. Our security forces remain alert and will continue to pursue these criminals wherever they go. We will not rest until peace is fully restored to every corner of Katsina State.”
