Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen Sunday night ambushed a passenger vehicle, killing the driver and one other before taking four travelers hostage.
The incident occurred at about 11.00pm along the Otukpo-Adoka road in Benue State. According eyewitnesses, the gunmen opened fire on sighting the vehicle, the bullets hit the driver and a one passenger. The driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into the bushes.
The Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA), confirmed the incident. He said the vehicle was coming from Abuja to Otukpo when the incident occurred.
He explained that majority of the passengers had alighted in Adoka before the incident took place.
According to him, “the six passengers that were remaining in the vehicle were intercepted along Adoka-Otukpo road, two people were killed and four others whisked away.”
