Pope Francis is far from making a recovery from the respiratory infection that has kept him in hospital since February 14.
The Vatican disclosed Monday that the Pope had two episodes of “acute respiratory failure,” and the condition reamin critical: “It has been another hard day.
“Today, the Holy Father presented two episodes of acute respiratory failure, caused by significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus and consequent bronchospasm.
“Two bronchoscopies were therefore performed with the need for aspiration of abundant secretions.
“In the afternoon, non-invasive mechanical ventilation was resumed. The Holy Father has always remained vigilant, oriented and collaborative.
“The prognosis remains reserved,” the Vatican said in statement.
The 88-year-old Pope France hard warn his Faithfuls that he might not survive his sickness.
