Athletics Federation of Nigeria has sent it’s condolences to the family and friends of late coach Harrison Momoh.
Coach Momoh one of Nigeria’s most accomplished track and field gaffers died March 1, 2025 at his residence in Ilorin Kwara State. He was 83 years old.
Speaking on the demise of coach Momoh, AFN president, Tonobok Okowa stated that the Delta State born coach raised a generation of track and field athletes that brought honour the country.
“To the athletics fraternity, Harrison Momoh helped raise top athIetes in the past. He is not just a coach but a true friend and a very patriotic Nigerian.
“Through his knowledge, Momoh, set the pace for the development of Nigeria athletics by giving his time and resources to the sport we all love,” the AFN President said.
Momoh coached the national team at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and African Games. Some of the athletes he discovered include late Sunday Bada, Olapade Adenekan, Olu Sule, Taiwo and Kehinde Aladefa, Omotayo and Omolade Akinremi, Bisi Afolabi, Airat Bakare, Angela Atede and Saidat Onauga.
“We shall always remember Harrison Momoh as a humble, patriotic, wise and passionate athletics enthusiast and a coach who dedicated his life to raising the standards of athIetics in Nigeria and sports in general.
“May God Almighty touch and sustain the bereaved family during this period of grief and may the soul of Harrison Momoh, rest in eternal peace,” Okowa added.
A programme of his funeral is still been awaited to be released by his family.
